If the outdoors is where you prefer to spend your days, Lawrence County has no shortage of activity to keep you going. From sun up to sun down, water is all around – creeks, streams, a lake and two rivers to be exact.
Volant was once called a virtual fly-fishing paradise by ESPN and it’s no wonder – fishermen can fish from two streams of Lake Arthur abundant with trout and bass. Winding through McConnell’s Mill State Park is Slippery Rock Creek, a go-to spot for water sports enthusiasts. Its rapids are ideal for beginner and novice kayakers. Lake Arthur’s waters produce a calmer tide that draws lovers of windsurfing, sailing and boating, especially during the annual Regatta each summer.
Staying on land is always an option, too. Lawrence County is home to eleven golf courses. Lake Arthur boasts plenty of open space for picnics, playgrounds and two beaches. Rose Point Park, Bear Run Campground and Cooper’s Lake Campground all make for a great spot to spend the night.
